Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Guy Fawkes Day
Celebrated on the 5th of November in England is Guy Fawkes Day or Bonfire Night. Each year people shoot of fireworks, children play with sparklers, and giant bonfires are built to burn literally anything you have lying around. Guy Fawkes was one of the leaders of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 where basically he tried to blow up Parliament. He was caught and executed for his crimes and every year, people create bonfires to celebrate his unsuccessful ploy and his execution – some bonfires even have a scarecrow or a “guy” in them! (This might sound familiar if you’ve seen the movie V for Vendetta, a fictional twist from the Guy Fawkes story.)
